Real Wedding – Happily Ever After In this Fairytale Disney Wedding

Following Ashley’s fairytale proposal in a Cinderella carriage in front of Heyer Castle, the pair knew that a stunning castle wedding venue had to be top of their wedding wish list. Prepared to scour the country for the best wedding castles, Ashley and Sarah began their hunt for the perfect venue…

The venue

Farnham Castle was the sixth castle the couple visited – and by far their favourite. “It had everything we wanted,” says Sarah. “It was a beautiful all-in-one venue and had gorgeous on-site accommodation for all our guests,” she explains. “We also loved the neutral and light interior and fantastic catering facilities, as well as the Castle’s impressive location!”

The styling

Being a Disney fan, there was no doubting what wedding theme Sarah would choose for her wedding. “We had a subtle Beauty and the Beast theme styled with roses in glass cloches and candelabras entwined with roses,” she explains. A colour scheme of pale pink, cream and sage green was used throughout the couple’s décor and outfits – with the men in cream suits and bridesmaids in pale sage.

The fairytale Disney wedding theme was even reflected in the couple’s wedding cake. “We had a three tier naked cake covered in berries and fresh flowers. Of course, it was finished with a ‘Happily Ever After’ cake topper,” smiles Sarah.

The dress

Despite some last-minute complications, Sarah did eventually find a dress that made her feel like a princess on her special day. “My original dress was ruined in the alterations process. When I went to pick it up two days before the wedding, it was no longer wearable,” explains Sarah. “Luckily, I quickly found a replacement – a dress that I’d actually tried on after purchasing my original dress and wish I’d bought. It seemed like fate,” she smiles.

The big-day

Sarah and Ashley tied the knot in Farnham Castle’s Lantern Hall. “It was so amazing to see everyone. One of my favourite moments was seeing Ashley well up as I walked down the aisle towards him,” smiles Sarah. The couple’s ceremony also featured a few surprises – with Ashley’s mother reading a heartfelt poem to the pair. “Her personalised poem made our ceremony extra special,” says Sarah.

Post-ceremony, the pair got to enjoy a few moments to themselves – without family and friends around. “It was so lovely to have five minutes together,” says Sarah. “We got to take in our wedding and had some time alone before enjoying the day with all of our loved ones.”

The celebrations

Making the most of the summer’s day, the couple and their guests headed out for a drinks reception on the front lawn. Canapés were enjoyed and Sangria served, followed by a delicious three-course breakfast inside. “After attending the food tasting at Farnham Castle, we knew that whatever we picked from the menu would definitely be special,” explains Sarah. “As expected, everything tasted great and was presented beautifully.”

The couple’s wedding breakfast consisted of a Scotch egg starter, beef main and a trio of desserts, which included seasonal crème brûlée, bread-and-butter pudding and dark chocolate tart. Come evening, yet more food was served – this time a traditional hog roast.

Bride and grooms first dance

It wasn’t just the wedding food that wowed the couple and their guests; their wedding entertainment was pretty impressive too. During the day, a harpist provided background music playing a variety of genres – obviously including Disney to match their Disney wedding theme. At night, the music was turned up a notch with a five-piece band. “They really got the party started and there was even a boys versus girls dance-off, followed by a conga involving everyone at the wedding,” smiles Sarah. “The atmosphere was laid-back and fun – perfect for a day of celebrations with our guests.”

Sarah’s top tip:

“Enjoy the whole process no matter how stressful it gets because it is all worth it in the end. It’s so important to make the most of every moment rather than sweat the small stuff.”
