When it came to their big-day, Cara and James knew exactly what they wanted. “Our wedding must-haves were great food, in an exclusive wedding venue that was light and airy. We wanted to get married and start the party straight away, all under one roof” explains Cara.
With clear ideas of what they wanted from their wedding venue, the couple set upon finding the perfect setting. “We came across Farnham Castle online and as soon as we walked in, we knew it was THE place,” smiles Cara. “The staff were really flexible about letting us do what we wanted, which was also really important to us,” she adds. The pair decided to book the venue out on a Thursday, rather than a weekend date. This helped them to save a substantial amount of money and allowed them to get wed in their dream venue.
The pretty and charming backdrop of Farnham Castle provided the perfect setting for the couple’s country garden wedding theme. The Castle’s neutral colour palette and fresh, contemporary feel combined with Cara and James’ floral fiesta and purple colour scheme set the scene for a relaxed and charming day ahead. “We wanted a natural, relaxed feel. It was important that everyone enjoyed the day with us and that there was minimal stress. We wanted as much laughter as possible,” smiles Cara.
Finding suppliers to help the couple create their wedding look was easy. They met their florist, Hannah, from Hannah Berry Flowers, at Farnham Castle’s tasting event and found their other suppliers online, or via recommendations from family and friends.
While Cara dreamed of a simple, streamlined wedding gown, she struggled to find one she felt comfortable in. After trying on numerous dresses, with little success, she decided to opt for a different style. “I ended up with a fit and flare style dress with a huge train and quite a bit of detail. I think most of us have body hang-ups and this was the only dress that I tried on that made me feel confident. Having tried on around 30 different gowns, I knew this was finally the one for me,” smiles Cara.
She teamed her gown with sparkly drop earrings, a delicate bracelet and comfortable, strappy sandals – that would stay on her feet all day and allow her to dance all night!
Cara and James enjoyed an autumn wedding celebration, beginning with a ceremony at the Castle. They added their own personal touch by writing their own vows – marking the start of their future together.
Once the formalities were over, the couple began their celebrations; starting with a peach Bellini drinks reception and followed by a four-course wedding breakfast. “We splurged on our wedding food as is was important that our guests were well fed, but the food was great. Everyone seemed to really enjoy it and they are still talking about it now – months later,” laughs Cara. “The Galloping Gourmet team served up a posh scotch egg starter, palette cleanser, beef two ways and then a trio of puddings,” she adds.
In the evening, the couple danced away to their favourite tunes, including Stevie Wonder’s Don’t You Worry About A Thing – their first dance song. “We wanted to kick start the night with something upbeat and happy and we practised a routine. I really didn’t want to just stand there and have everyone watching us without having something planned and it actually turned out to be really good fun!” smiles Cara.
