Farnham Castle offers a real sense of grace and grandeur for your big day, with its vast ceilings, stunning stained-glass windows and distinct architecture. The setting is steeped in history and has been sympathetically restored to exceptional standards.
With great bones like this you have the perfect starting point for creating an elegant, refined and beautiful wedding day, but just how do you go about planning a wedding here and making the space your own?
To help us we called in creative wedding planners Pocketful of Dreams to create a beautiful wedding design for Farnham Castle in Surrey. Michelle and her team have been responsible for a truly spectacular array of weddings over the years, working with the UK’s very best suppliers from florists to calligraphers, cake-makers to crafters. They vow to move heaven and earth when seeking the perfect finishing touches that bring an occasion to life.
Here’s what they had to say about designing a wedding day at a venue like Farnham Castle:
Think about the architecture, colours and styling that already exist within your venue; are the walls, carpets and décor in natural shades or bright, vibrant colours? Is it ornately decorated or stark and minimal?. It’s important to make sure that you select a style that complements your venue. This will avoid too many colours and details fighting for attention and often means you can invest less in décor by making the most of what is already there.
Farnham Castle wedding venue is a great blank canvas that has an elegant and refined aesthetic, the colours found throughout are neutral but warm, with creamy shades on the walls and furniture complemented by natural wood and stone flooring. The architecture features vast ceilings and tall windows offering a real sense of grandeur, it is important therefore that any details added to the space also mirror this grandeur so they are effective.
Your vision or mood board should capture your dreams for your wedding, giving a sense of the style and overall feel of the day. It is a great visual tool for your wedding planning that will help you to communicate your vision to the various suppliers involved from stationers to florists, caterers to the venue itself, helping them to understand exactly what you are hoping to achieve. It should also contain a colour palette of complementary colours that work well together.
When designing for Farnham Castle we were inspired by Pantone’s colour of the year marsala, a bold earthy red that we paired with sage green as well as softer pinks, blush, champagne and ivory to offer a rich and sophisticated palette. A sumptuous antique gold was the final addition to provide a luxurious touch to the scheme. All of the chosen colours complement the existing tones within the venue providing an overall light and airy aesthetic with hints of richness, similar to the design styles evident within the venue itself.
Make sure your wedding is remembered for the right reasons! Take time when selecting your suppliers; do your research, seek out recommendations and wherever possible try and meet with suppliers before booking. For those suppliers who will be present on the day especially, personal rapport is just as important as capability so make sure you are hiring people whose work you admire and who you are comfortable around.
Wedding planning can be stressful, so when the day comes step back and trust that these experts will deliver exactly what they’re supposed to, when they’re supposed to. Your guests will take their cue from you on the day – a relaxed and happy couple will always make for a more enjoyable day.
